DUENDE INDALO presents: Fly By Night Sundays No. 4
Genre crossing virtuosos DUENDE INDALO are back at Fremantle’s iconic music venue The Fly By Night for a series of Sunday evening showcases. One Sunday each month, a different local act will be joining the DUENDE INDALO collective. Each of these acts are in their own right unique, worldly and incredibly talented!
The likes of the PRAASHEKH QUARTET, THE ZAGORIA TRIO, CHILALI AND THE CHIEF and JAMIE DAVID AND MIRACLE BAND X will be playing along-side DUENDE INDALO to create a night of exotic musical sounds. This is sure to be a unique experience for the world music enthusiast.
The last three months have seen the Praashekh Quartet, Ilan Zaggoria, Chilali and the Chief and Duende Indalo dazzle packed houses at The Fly and the vibe has been electric!
The fourth and final instalment of The Fly By Sundays will feature Jamie David (Miracle Band X) on August 5th. Supporting will be The Fremantle Sax Quartet.
Jamie David (with Miracle Band X)
Seemingly the least “world music” of the acts to have shared the bill with Duende Indalo in this series, Jamie David is, on the surface of it another bloody male singer-songwriter guitarist…and yet…
Such experiences as running away from the circus at a tender age; musical studies in West Africa and India; touring and working as a multi-instrumentalist in a plethora of different styles; a lifelong interest in “outsider” music – all of these have left an indelible imprint on his performances in the form of a unique mongrel guitar style, unusual yet strangely compelling song structures and highly expressive vocals.
Lyrically, Mr David likes to dive in deep – blackest blacks, whitest whites, huge globs of colour and imagery portraying a vast spectrum of human experience. This is engaging, poetic, story-telling served up with humour and heart.
Who is Miracle Band X? Whoever is foolhardy enough to join him on the night…
“Welcome to a new world, a new dimension of musical ability, and a new way to connect with esoteric sounds from across the globe. Duende Indalo combine superior musicianship, creative epiphany and expansive soundscapes.” Laura Glitsos, Curtin University Popular Music Lecturer
Duende Indalo play an eclectic mix of styles fusing together Flamenco, Jazz, Middle Eastern and ambient sounds to create something wholly unique. They imbue their performances with virtuosic rigor and intensity to create music that will transport you to every corner of the globe.
Duende Indalo features Roy Martinez bass guitar, Karl Hiller on nylon string guitar, Scott Howard on drums and Tony Borthwick on soprano saxophone, flute and bansuri.
After recent performances at Fairbridge Festival and Yagen Square, DUENDE INDALO are armed with new works and an exciting stage show to match!
Fremantle Saxophone Quartet
Comprising of some of Fremantle’s finest sax players, this quartet perform exciting arrangements of contemporary jazz, Latin and classical works which showcase the virtuosic playing of the group. The Fremantle Saxophone Quartet will be playing during set breaks on the night to keep the music flowing.
